Though Morten Tyldum’s upcoming film ‘Passengers’ is often described as a “romantic sci-fi thriller”, one can’t help wondering if “disaster movie” might in some ways be more appropriate.

With just under a month to go until the movie’s release date, a new trailer has been released, and more than the previous trailers and promotional clips, this one plays up the various disasters and malfunctions that will plague our characters. While the film’s marketing hasn’t exactly shied away from the fact that the ship suffers any number of malfunctions (given that these malfunctions provide the underpinnings of not only the film’s plot but also many of its special effect sequences), it’s an aspect of the movie that has not generally been emphasized to this extent. With that in mind, the latest trailer can’t help but invite comparisons to ‘Titanic’, even as it suggest that the malfunction that set things in motion may not have been as random as it seemed.

You can watch the new trailer below:

From the film’s official summary:

On a routine journey through space to a new home, two passengers, sleeping in suspended animation, are awakened 90 years too early when their ship malfunctions. As Jim (Chris Pratt) and Aurora (Jennifer Lawrence) face living the rest of their lives on board, with every luxury they could ever ask for, they begin to fall for each other, unable to deny their intense attraction… until they discover the ship is in grave danger. With the lives of 5000 sleeping passengers at stake, only Jim and Aurora can save them all.
