The upcoming adaptation of ‘Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events‘ has been getting an impressive push from Netflix ahead of its January premiere, including some quirky teasers and of course a number of set photos and promotional stills, many of them showcasing the show’s distinct production design. But there has been something missing.

That something has been a full trailer, but now the wait is over. The first trailer for the series, which dropped today, give us the most concrete sense of the adaptation that we’ve had so far. The trailer showcases several of the series’ main characters, particularly (as might be expected) the Baudelare children and Count Olaf, all while offering up even more of what is fast becoming the adaptation’s signature visual style and tone. Throughout the trailer, Neil Patrick Harris makes quite the impression as both the role of Olaf and the many disguises adopted by the character give Harris ample opportunity to chew the scenery.

The trailer can be seen here:

Based on the series of best-selling books by Daniel Handler, ‘Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events’ follows the Baudelaire children (Violet, Klaus, and Sunny) as they find themselves in the custody of their eccentric (and criminal) relative Count Olaf following the death of their parents. As the story progresses, the children must outwit their guardian at every turn, thwarting Olaf’s schemes to deprive them of their inheritance, all the while seeking the clues they need to unravel the mysteries that surround their parents’ deaths.

What do you think of the trailer? What do you hope to see in the series? Let us know in the comments!

The series stars Neil Patrick Harris, Patrick Warburton, Joan Cusack, Malina Weissman, and Louis Hynes. The eight-episode season is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on January 13, 2017.
