It would be easy to think that ‘Jurassic World 2‘ would just be moving on from ‘Jurassic World’ but according to director J.A. Bayona it looks like it won’t just be a sequel but ‘Jurassic Park 5’. What exactly that means is a little vague but it seems like it will be following the original series as well as the blockbuster of a smash hit which we saw from Colin Trevorrow.

So, what exactly does that mean? Well, we don’t know exactly. While on tour for promoting the upcoming ‘A Monster Calls’ the director stated:

“That’s a good question! I think somehow it’s both. It’s a very good question, and what we’re doing is a sequel to Jurassic World, but it’s definitely the fifth chapter of a longer saga. It’s very interesting. It’s always tricky, but you need to find a balance in what people expect to find, and the new stuff you’re bringing to the story. And I think the story is looking for a connection between Jurassic World and Jurassic Park — more than what Jurassic World did.”

That kind of makes me hope that we’ll be seeing a return of some of the original cast outside of BD Wong’s Dr. Henry Wu. Speaking of Wong, we don’t have to worry as it sounds like he’ll be back as well after his miraculous helicopter escape:

“Sure. I think what this film does is it’s the second chapter of the story that started in Jurassic World, and it’s open to a third chapter too. It’s very interesting in the way that we’re approaching the story, and where we are leading the story. We’re leading the story to a place that the audience is not expecting, and that’s always exciting when you do a sequel.”

So it seems that we’ll be seeing more dinosaurs and possibly, even more, breeds of them going forward. However, how and why still remains to be seen. This makes it seem like we’ll both be seeing some kind of need to be at the park itself but with Wong’s character involved it almost seems like we’ll be seeing some other location as well. Unless, the agency which coopted Wong ends up purchasing the park and committing their experiments there.
