ghost-rider

On this week’s episode of ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’, we discovered the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s version of how Robbie Reyes became Ghost Rider. For some time, we’ve been hearing that he made a deal with the devil to become the fiery vigilante, but now it has been revealed that the Spirit of Vengeance was actually passed to him from the previous host. Although, the identity of that person was never explicitly revealed. Well, the man behind the flaming skull and the Hellcharger might be dropping a few hints.

While watching the latest installment of the popular ABC superhero drama titled ‘The Good Samaritan’, long-time True Believers may have noticed that the figure that brought Robbie back to the realm of the living rode a motorcycle and sported a familiar leather jacket (as you can see above). But we’re never told exactly who that was, so his identity was left up to interpretation (even though everyone had a pretty good idea of who it was). Shortly after the episode aired, Gabriel Luna (who plays Robbie Reyes) took to Twitter to share a few noteworthy pictures of his character’s comic book counterpart with Johnny Blaze, the original and most famous hero to take up the mantle of Ghost Rider.

Since the less than savory portrayals of Blaze by Nic Cage on the big screen, fans have been clamoring for a better live-action version of the character. Could these posts confirm that this was indeed Johnny Blaze’s introduction to the MCU? And might they indicate that the Ghost Riders may join forces on the small screen this season as they did in the comics in a sort of mentor/mentee sort of way? After all, there were other hints earlier this season that Johnny might factor into this story even further. Or is Luna simply trolling the fans that crave to see Blaze take his rightful place among the other Marvel heroes in this universe? Only the actor and those involved in the show truly know the answer. But with the show taking a break until November 29th, we’ll have plenty of time to toss and turn over the possibilities.

Do you think that Johnny Blaze was the one to imbue Robbie Reyes with the powers of Ghost Rider on ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’? If so, could you see the former circus stuntman coming back into Robbie’s life to fight alongside Agent Phil Coulson, Quake, and the rest of the team?
