The first ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ was one of the most fun ensemble action movies in ages and featured some side-splitting interplay between the ragtag heroes as well as their enemies.  But could the powers that be possibly pluck one of these characters away from the fold and set them off on their own adventure?  Would the same magic happen?

We may get a chance to find out.  James Gunn, director of both ‘Guardians’ movies, says he’s thought about a solo movie starring one of his many playthings and it’s not actually one of the Guardians.

Via Twitter he announced:

Viewers should expect Nebula (played by Karen Gillan) to get a bit of a spotlight in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ which arrives in 2017.  Nebula and her sister Gamora (Zoë Saldana) are the daughters of Thanos, the Big Bad of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, trained to be among the deadliest assassins in the universe.  In the first ‘Guardians’, Nebula wound up in league with her sister and her team and she is expected to be an uneasy ally in the second.

In an interview, Gunn discussed the tense relationship between Gamora and Nebula saying:

“The first movie was really about becoming a family. This movie is about being a family. And what’s harder, becoming a family or being a family? I think it’s being a family. That’s where you really have to deal with each other. And that’s what this movie is about. And they’re sisters. They are family, whether they like it or not. And they also want to kill each other, so it adds a new twist to being a sister.”

Last year, Gillan also discussed the relationship, saying:

“I think what I’m really excited about it delving into the sisterly relationship between Gamora and Nebula. I think that we’re going to see a little bit more of that, and it’s going to be a bit more fleshed out.”

Of course, we don’t know what’s going to happen between the pair, or any of the characters for that matter, in the new movie.  But in the first, Nebula and Gamora tried to kill each other, so don’t expect things to go smoothly.  But depending on what happens next, Nebula could possibly be set up to go solo.

Would you be interested in seeing Nebula in her own film?
