We’ve known for awhile that ‘American Gods‘ would expand on Neil Gaiman’s novel but haven’t known exactly how. Today, we’re learning that one character who has been cast in the show that had a lesser role in the book will be getting a spotlight shown on him as he takes a much more active role in the series. But, which God or human could really stand on their own and take any of the spotlight away from Ricky Whittle’s Shadow Moon working or Ian McShane’s Mr. Wednesday. With the rest of the cast containing Crispin Glover, Gillian Anderson, Orlando Jones, Kristin Chenoweth, and Jeremy Davies it is hard to tell who will really get a stand out role.
If you want to be surprised when the series lands on Starz, you’re going to want to turn back now!
Honestly, it wasn’t any of the above who will be getting more screentime than page time but Pablo Schreiber‘s Mad Sweeney! There is no word as to how or why Sweeney will be playing a larger role and it could be anything from his coin to origin stories, to just having more written into his character.
Are you happy to hear that we’ll be getting more of Mad Sweeney? How do you think they will expand his part for the series? Share your thoughts below!
Synopsis:
When Shadow Moon is released from prison, he meets the mysterious Mr. Wednesday and a storm begins to brew. Little does Shadow know, this storm will change the course of his entire life. Left adrift by the recent, tragic death of his wife, and suddenly hired as Mr. Wednesday’s bodyguard, Shadow finds himself in the center of a world that he struggles to understand. It’s a world where magic is real, where the Old Gods fear both irrelevance and the growing power of the New Gods, like Technology and Media. Mr. Wednesday seeks to build a coalition of Old Gods to defend their existence in this new America, and reclaim some of the influence that they’ve lost. As Shadow travels across the country with Mr. Wednesday, he struggles to accept this new reality, and his place in it.
