There are so many things to love about Netflix’s latest original series, ‘Stranger Things‘. We could talk about the 80s nostalgia that mixes Stephen King with Steven Spielberg. There’s also the amazing cast that consists of Millie Bobby Brown, Winona Ryder, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, and more. Plus, there’s tons to be said about the soundtrack and the practical effects and the intense atmosphere that they created. But it seems like many fans are gravitating towards one character in particular whenever the hot new show comes up. That would be Barb.
You can’t go very far in this show’s fandom without running into some kind of love for Shannon Purser’s Barb. Known for dropping all sorts of real talk on Nancy and remaining a loyal friend, she ultimately led to her demise in the Upside Down at the hands of the Demogorgon. Unfortunately, that was basically all we got to see of her since the focus shifted to finding Will. No funeral, no grieving family, no nothing. However, should a second season be ordered, creators Matt and Ross Duffer have promised that the fan favorite character would be avenged in some way. In an interview with IGN, Matt laid it all out on the table:
“We’ll make sure there’s some justice for Barb. People get very frustrated, understandably, that the town doesn’t seem to be really dealing with Barb. That stuff is all happening. We’re just not spending any screen time on it. It’s not like her parents are like, ‘Oh, Barb left.’ She died! Season 1 actually takes place over the course of six or seven days – it’s a really short period of time. So part of what we want to do with [a] hypothetical season 2 is to explore the repercussions of everything that happened.”
Judging by the show’s popularity, it’s hard to imagine that there won’t be a continuation of this story. Since this is likely the case, fans of the show and of Barb should be very happy with this news. It’s a bummer that she couldn’t be saved, but it will be very interesting to see how her family and the town in general will react to what happened to her.
Are you looking forward to seeing justice for Barb in a second season of ‘Stranger Things’? What else do you hope to see in a followup to the standout series of the summer? Let us know in the comments below.
