‘Jumanji‘ is one of many beloved Robin Williams classics and the idea that a reboot was in the works was rubbing many the wrong way. But thanks to The Rock, we’ve just learned that the new film will instead be a sequel. That’s right, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson aren’t starring in a reboot of ‘Jumanji’ but in a sequel which no one had suspected!
Specifically, Dwayne made the announcement on Instagram where he said:
And now in two weeks I’ll reunite with ol’ friends Kevin Hart & Jack Black and we have the honor to introduce a whole new generation to the amazing world of #JUMANJI. *(for the record we are NOT making a reboot, but rather a continuation of the awesome JUMANJI story).
This is news that is far preferable to a reboot but also without being able to include any further explorations with Williams still makes it bittersweet to swallow. It’s hard to imagine if the family from the first film would give away their magical board game away, if it was stolen, or if another copy of the game possesses this same magical ability.

I hope that whatever route they go ends up working out for viewers.
