It seems that his lack of screen time in ‘Suicide Squad’ has not squashed Jared Leto‘s rising star in Hollywood, as the talented actor has just been cast in the new ‘Blade Runner’ sequel coming up in 2017.
According to THR, Leto has now officially signed on for a role in the film, though what exactly he will be playing has not yet been revealed. The film already has a pretty stellar cast that includes Harrison Ford (reprising his role as Rick Deckard), Ryan Gosling, Robin Wright, and Dave Bautista, and a pretty amazing crew behind the camera that includes Ridley Scott as executive producer, Denis Villeneuve (‘Sicario’) as director, and original ‘Blade Runner’ writer Hampton Fancher penning the screenplay alongside comic-book writer Michael Green.
For those not aware, the sequel to the 1982 classic will catch up with Rick Deckard two decades after his hunt for hidden rogue replicants, introducing him to a whole new world full of strange and interesting characters, which is most likely where Leto’s casting comes into place. Aside from the obvious example of the Joker, the man is known for his intriguing and often-times off-kilter performances and his ability to bring to life strange personalities that another actor might end up making seem like a joke. Whether this means the man is looking for outside work as a means to escape his role in the DCEU as the Joker is probably unlikely, but with the critical failure of ‘Suicide Squad,’ it is smart of any actor involved in that project to keep his options open.
