At the SDCC panel for ‘Bates Motel’ fans were surely disappointed by some sad news: the show is ending with the upcoming fifth season. Well, it couldn’t go on forever, right? The show serves as a prequel to the classic Hitchcock film ‘Psycho’ and depicts the closer-than-close relationship be future lady killer Norman Osborn (played here by Freddie Highmore) and his overbearing mother Norma (Vera Farmiga).
The news was also announced via the show’s Twitter page:
It’s official, the #BatesMotel will close after Season 5 #SDCC

Executive producer Carleton Cuse cautioned that viewers shouldn’t expect an exact recreation of this fateful scene, stating:
“We will be colliding with certain events in the narrative of the film, but it would be boring to just recreate Psycho.”
(Just ask anyone involved with the 1998 flop remake.)
It appears that Rihanna has publicly expressed her love of the series, which prompted producers to reach out to her to offer the role. Rihanna made her big screen acting debut in ‘Battleship’ and also has a role in the highly anticipated ‘Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets’.
In other news, cast members Highmore, Nestor Carbonell, and Max Thieriot will direct episodes in season five.
Are you sad to see ‘Bates Motel’ close up shop?
