Spike TV’s adaptation of Stephen King’s ‘The Mist‘ has just picked up an amazing actress as Frances Conroy (‘The Aviator’,’Scent of a Woman’) has joined the cast. Conroy has had some great experience in genre work so far having won a Golden Globe and multiple Screen Actors Guild Awards for her work on ‘Six Feet Under’ and had roles in the first four seasons of ‘American Horror Story’ which almost won her an Emmy in ‘American Horror Story: Coven’.

A ‘Stephen King’ based series honestly feels like a perfect fit for her talents. Christian Torpe and Amanda Segel are the central Executive Producers on the series which is set to begin filming this summer to be released in 2017.

While I was initially hoping that this announcement would include Conroy as a certain religious zealot, she is actually going to play Nathalie who is described as “a modern day ecological martyr. While she is seemingly more connected to nature than most people, her instincts about her fellow humans are dead on.”

I’m looking forward to her performance in the series and wonder which direction they’ll take Stephen King’s novella that wasn’t already explored with the amazingly bleak 2007 film. Much like ‘Haven,’ there is a lot of potential here to flesh out the story with some unique content that is fitting but hopefully they don’t follow the path of ‘Under the Dome’ and burn through King’s material without a solid direction to go when they have to come up with their own content.

Spike is describing ‘The Mist’ as “a harrowing story about a seemingly innocuous mist that seeps into a small town and creates immense havoc.” The horrors within can tend to have a Lovecraftian feel from how it has been discussed in the past and how the film showed them. Either way, you don’t generally get a look at the monsters right off the bat but just what they’re capable of.

Are you looking forward to Spike’s take on ‘The Mist’? Who else would you like to see cast in the series? Share your thoughts below!
