Chris Miller and Phil Lord created the unexpected hit ‘The LEGO Movie’ and ever since Hollywood has been banging on their door. The duo was attached to the ‘Spider-Man’ animated movie from Sony, but departed to helm the ‘Han Solo’ movie for Disney. Bob Persichetti is now attached to direct, but will be keeping Lord and Miller’s script.
Rumor has it, that the animated feature will feature Miles Morales, a.k.a. the ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’. Lord and Miller would neither confirm nor deny this, but Miller did comment:
“It is not going to feel like every other Spider-Man movie you’ve seen. It will stand on its own as a unique film-going experience. It’s wonderful and the people that are working on it are geniuses. It is unique. … People will love it.”
The animated ‘Spider-Man’ movie isn’t due until 2018, so
not much absolutely NOTHING has been revealed about it.
Earlier Lord expressed:
“Chris and I like to carve out spaces where people will let us do what we want. So much of our careers are like ‘oh, no one will bother us while we try to make a ‘21 Jump Street’ movie, because it’s such a crazy idea, no one’s going to know what to do with it.’ So we’re doing these things kind of like that. They’re part of these huge franchises, but kind of are off a little bit to the side, and that gives us a lot of creative freedom, and that’s the thing we love. Hopefully we won’t waste that!”
That lends credence to a Miles movie, since it will not connect with the live action ‘Spider-Man’ movies that are being made in conjunction with Marvel Studios. This animated movie will be strictly a Sony affair and therefore also won’t connect to the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The animated ‘Spider-Man’ film, directed by Bob Persichetti will be released on December 21, 2018.
