We’ve seen a few names into the mix as to who should be cast as Cable in ‘Deadpool 2‘ and the future ‘X-Force‘ movie(s) but I have to say the idea of Ron Perlman (‘Hellboy’,’Pacific Rim’) in the role sounds like the best idea yet. While Jon Hamm, Stephen Lang, Liam Neeson, and Dolph Lundgren have all come up in discussions, you can’t argue that Perlman really has the look and build for the role. Not only that but his portrayal of Clay on ‘Sons of Anarchy’ has a lot of the same personality you can expect to find in Cable: ruthlessness, manipulation, violence, seriousness, dedication, the willingness to lie to his teammates to get his own agenda done, and the occasional dry sense of humor.

We don’t know if the studio has anyone in mind at this time but screenwriter Rhett Reese has previously described what they are looking for:

“Strength, gravitas, a purposefulness that Deadpool doesn’t have. Deadpool’s kind of got ADD, and we think of Cable as someone who locks onto something and is going to get that thing solved no matter what.

With the prior acting that Perlman has under his belt, it is pretty clear that he can pull off everything that the studio is looking for.

The one thing that Perlman might have going against him is that he could be too old for what they want. To be completely fair, I truly hope that they don’t hold that against him. I mean…

Ron Perlman Cable 1

Ron Perlman Cable 2

I really do think he has the look and height to pull this off. He can also do violently serious in a way that could perfectly offset Wade Wilson’s insane little world.

Do you think that Ron Perlman would be perfect to play Cable? What other actor would you have in mind for the role? Share your thoughts below True Believers!

The Merc With The Mouth will team up with Cable in ‘Deadpool 2’ in 2017!
