There are a number of things that could be considered fun about ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’. You may have enjoyed Han Solo and Chewbacca arguing about the cold. Or maybe you appreciated Lin-Manuel Miranda’s cantina music at Maz Kanata’s palace (which has been on repeat at my house since it became available on iTunes and Spotify). And, of course, there’s anything and everything involving BB-8. But everyone can agree that the cameos spread throughout J.J. Abrams’ smash hit from a galaxy far, far away were fun little tidbits for those of us that paid a little extra attention. And now as Rian Johnson continues to work on ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’, it seems like he is following suit and including some fun cameos of his own if the latest report turns out to be true.
In ‘Episode VII’, the most memorable cameo had to be Daniel Craig’s stormtrooper falling victim to Rey’s Jedi Mind Trick. For the follow up to the beloved blockbuster, word is that ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ star Tom Hardy will have a similarly hilarious scene. According to Making Star Wars, who happens to have a solid reputation for ‘Star Wars’ scoops, the actor will be playing a stormtrooper that has a run-in with John Boyega’s Finn, who is apparently called to infiltrate the First Order as his former self FN-2187. While on this mission, Hardy surprises Finn by slapping him on the ass. Though Finn believes that he’s compromised, Hardy is actually happy to see that his friend from their academy days was promoted to Resistance infiltrator and spy. After that, FN-2187 is free to continue on with the task at hand.
Though there is currently no proof that this cameo will be included in ‘Episode VIII’, it does sound like something that could feasibly happen. After all, Supreme Leader Snoke probably didn’t inform all of his minions that they have a defector on their hands. That could lead to even more dissension in the ranks, so if a few stormtroopers believe that one of their own is on a secret mission, the First Order will probably run with it.
