We’re the one weekly column right here on ScienceFiction.com where we seek out all of the awesome news you need to know about any announcements and cool happenings in the toy industry and put them all in one easy to find place for you! We hope you all had an amazing ‘ALIEN’ Day last week, because we know we sure did! While the event was a week ago there are still plenty of ‘ALIEN’ related news bits to keep the party going and keep us celebrating all the way until ‘ALIEN’ Day next year! If you’re a bit burnt out on ‘ALIENS’ by now (at which point you’re probably on the wrong website), don’t worry! There are plenty of other news bits this week too in the Toy News for the week of May 3rd, 2016!
“I’mma Eat Y’all With My Little Mouth Too!”
This past week we celebrated the first ever ‘ALIEN’ Day on April 26th (4/16 to be more precise, in reference to planet LV-426 where the ALIEN eggs were discovered in ‘ALIEN’ and the colony was based in ‘ALIENS’), and wow was it a doozy! There were a ton of cool announcements and contests going on all day, and among them were some amazing news bits from our friends at NECA Toys! This week NECA announced their plans for Series 9 of their ‘ALIENS’ line, as well as one more special treat for longtime ‘ALIENS’ fans! Celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Aliens with three extraordinary action figure debuts! Series 9 includes the first-ever Private Vasquez and Private Frost figures with authorized likenesses, as well as an Albino Alien concept figure based on the original James Cameron screenplay.
Private Jenette Vasquez is one of the most requested action figures of all time and features the likeness of Jenette Goldstein. Her Marine gear is completely faithful to the movie, from the hand-painted mottos to the detailed headgear and shoulder lamp. Vasquez has over 30 points of articulation and comes with a smartgun with fully articulated harness, plus a blast effect that attaches to the muzzle.
Private Ricco Frost – known as “Frosty” to his fellow Marines – comes to action figure form for the first time with the likeness of actor Ricco Ross. His detailed body armor features the same personalized touches as in the movie, and he’s packed with accessories: removable helmet, ammo bag, M240 Flamethrower, and pistol that fits in a functioning holster. Pvt. Frost has over 25 points of articulation.
The Albino Alien is our first concept figure from the 1986 movie. It was inspired by the original James Cameron screenplay, which describes an albino version of the Xenomorph that has an excreting probe in place of the usual second inner mouth. The Albino Alien has over 30 points of articulation and features a bendable mouth probe and a frightening new color scheme.
All figures stand approximately 7” tall (Albino Alien is over 9” tall) and come in 30th Anniversary clamshell packaging.
As if all of this wasn’t enough, one more surprise came our way from NECA this week with the reveal of the first ever Newt figure in their 7″ scale ‘ALIENS’ line! The figure was revealed via the official Twitter account of actress Carrie Henn, who played Newt in James Cameron’s 1986 masterpiece ‘ALIENS’. This is actually only the second ever action figure of Newt to be made, with Diamond Select Toys Minimates line having the honor of releasing the first ever Newt figure only recently! Regardless of who did it first, it’s about damn time we finally got some Newt merchandise (it only took what, thirty years?)! It’s a great time to be an ‘ALIENS’ fan!
Bring Home The Merc With A Mouth In A Big Way
Earlier this year Marvel Comics ‘Deadpool’ took box offices by storm with his first ever live action movie! The movie is heading to home release soon, but if a DVD or Bluray isn’t enough to satisfy you, then you’re in for a really fantastic surprise from the team at NECA! Over the last few years, NECA has been releasing a series of life-sized character replica’s in the form of large scale foam figural statues! While they started smaller with characters like Gremlins and Rocket Raccoon, they recently upgraded to larger characters like the 6-foot-plus Batman figure that is set to release this summer! Now they’re bringing us even more ridiculousness with a life-sized figure of everyone’s favorite scarred mercenary, Deadpool!
This life-sized foam figure is going to stand at over 6′ tall and weigh in at around 210lbs according to a recent listing at BBTS! He’s also going to run you around $1,200, so he isn’t for the casual collector. Sadly there are also currently no images of this piece available yet, with the product listing with just a placeholder image for now. Still, with looking at the quality of NECA’s previous life-sized foam pieces, it’s hard to imagine this Deadpool will be anything less than stunning! Check out the full listing from BBTS below:

It’s out overseas already, and this weekend Marvel fans everywhere can cheer with the U.S. release of ‘Captain America: Civil War’! The team at Hot Toys is keeping this merchandise train rolling with the announcement of yet another figure in the ‘Civil War’ line, this time with their new ‘Captain America: Civil War’ 1:6 scale Black Widow figure! While we’ve seen Black Widow a few times from Hot Toys before, this is an all new version with an updated costume and sculpt, as well as some fun new accessories including dual nightsticks, dual pistols, dual batons, and a special new ‘Civil War’ figure stand! We’ve known about this guy for a few months now, but the team at Mezco has finally released all the details and specs for their upcoming One:12 Collective Green Arrow figure! “All Around Me Are Familiar Faces…”
Our friends over at McFarlane Toys have given ‘Gears Of War’ fans their first look at the new JD Fenix figure from Microsoft’s upcoming ‘Gears Of War 4’! This figure was on display this past week at PAX East and wow does it look great!
This new JD Fenix figure is only a prototype, so we can’t quite see the articulation yet, but McFarlane is promising us that it will be there! McFarlane is touting that the figure will sport 15 points of articulation although we aren’t sure just how much range of movement the articulation will have just yet. This figure will be a part of McFarlane’s ‘Color Tops Collection’, and is being released this fall as part of the ‘Blue’ Wave.
“Round One… FIGHT!”
The team over at Multiverse Studios have announced their all new Street Fighter Mini Figure Collection! This series of four highly detailed PVC figures brings some of the ‘Street Fighter’ franchise’s heaviest hitters to your toy collection is super stylized form! Each of these figures is based on artwork by Miguel Wilson and stands around 4″-5″ tall (depending on the character). Did we mention that their packaging is set to look like a classic arcade cabinet? For this first wave, you can expect to see fan favorite characters like Ryu, Chun-Li, Guile, and Blanka! These guys are set to hit stores this fall!
The Funko Forecast
Get ready for the Funko Forecast! This is where we’re going to be showcasing all of the cool new announcements and reveals from Funko! With all of the awesome that consistently seems to be flowing out of those guys, it shouldn’t be hard to keep this section alive each and every week!
Funko Street Fighter
The team over at PopVinyls is reporting the upcoming release of new Funko POP! Vinyls based on Capcom’s legendary ‘Street Fighter’ fighting game series! The one major downside is that theses are considered part of the POP! Asia line (much like other figures are ‘POP! Heroes’, ‘POP! Horror’, ‘POP! Music’, ect), which aren’t often made readily available here in the U.S.! While some specialty retailers such as Toy Tokyo may carry them, it isn’t clear whether this line will see a widespread retail release in the United States or not.

Adding even more fuel to the ‘ALIEN’ Day fire is Funko with two new big announcements! The first of which is an amazing looking ‘ALIENS’ ReAction figure set that includes Ripley, The Power Loader, and The Alien Queen that we first saw a few months back at Toy Fair! The second reveal is a new ‘ALIENS’ line of POP! Vinyls that includes the first ever Ripley POP! and a new 6″ Super Sized Alien Queen POP! Check out the release from Funko below:

While we’re used to seeing all sorts of exclusives from Funko from a variety of different retailers, these next two stand out as particularly awesome! Funko has got two new exclusives coming our way from two different places that you won’t want to miss! First up, PopVinyls is reporting the new GTS Exclusive ‘Masked’ Captain Marvel POP! Vinyl, which is probably going to highly sought after thanks to this characters soaring popularity in recent years. Then we’ve got the new Metallic Voltron POP! coming our way as an Anime Expo exclusive piece! Anime Expo is set to take place in just a few weeks from July 1st through July 4th 2016 and is currently the only way to get this exclusive new POP! Vinyl.
