With casting announcements and a release date, it seems like ‘Blade Runner 2‘ is steadily moving forward and today we’ve just learned that Dutch actress Sylvia Hoeks (‘The Best Offer’,’The Storm’) has also just joined as one of the sequel’s leads! She’ll be working with Ana de Armas, Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling, Robin Wright, and Dave Bautista when the film hits the big screen next year. While Hoeks is a newer name to science fiction and American audiences, it looks like director Denis Villeneuve has really put together an all-star cast and I’m looking forward to seeing them work together. In 2007, she won the Golden Calf (which is basically the Dutch version of an Oscar) for her breakthrough role in ‘Duska’.

Just like everyone else that has been confirmed to join the cast so far , Hoeks’ role is a heavily guarded secret. In fact, the only person’s role we know for sure is Ford as Hampton Fancher! Michael Green’s script has been kept under wraps with the only details being that the movie is “set several decades after the original, with Harrison Ford reprising his iconic role as Rick Deckard.” Fancher wrote the 1982 film along with David Peoples which was based off of Philio K. Dick’s ‘Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?’

Alcon co-founders Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson say of the actress that:

Sylvia is a radiant talent, a tremendous actress with great appeal in a wide variety of roles. Her addition to this vastly accomplished international cast is a perfect fit.

I am not familiar with Hoeks’ work but I’m sure that the studio is being very careful with casting for the sequel of such a significant film in science fiction history.

Are you excited to hear that we’re seeing more casting for ‘Blade Runner 2’? Do you think that we’ll be able to revisit the world of Rick Deckard and enjoy it or will this fall flat? Share your thoughts below!

‘Blade Runner 2′ will be appearing on the big screen on October 6, 2017.
