Pennywise is officially set to return as the first in a 2-part reboot of Stephen King‘s ‘IT‘ has just gotten a release date.

Things looked murky for the film when director Cary Fukunaga (‘True Detective’) dropped off of the reboot but when Andy Muschietti (‘Mama’) having been rumored to take over it seems that the entire film is back on track. It also looks like Warner Brothers is confident that the movie is still good to go as it has just been officially scheduled to be released next year. The first of this 2-parter story is actually set to hit theaters on September 8th, 2017 so while there is plenty of time to get the movie finalized by that date it would mean that production would have to kick in sooner than later if they plan on being able to do the novel and original movie justice.

As someone who doesn’t tend to be for remakes,I am a bit worried on how the transition between directors is going as usually scripts and casting can have a shake up when directors change.

‘Pennywise’ will not just be a reboot of the original film but a new take on the 1986 novel of the same name penned by King. In ‘It’ there is a group of friends who are stalked by the demon Pennywise. As children, they believe that they have trapped the entity but as adults we see that not only has it caused chaos throughout their lives but that it is still alive in their hometown and kicking.

In the original cinematic version, we saw the points of views mixed together while in the new take we’ll have the first movie following the point of view of the children while the second will follow their point of view as adults.

There is no other news on casting or plot changes at this time. When Fukunaga was still running things we knew that Will Poulter had been cast to take on Tim Curry’s iconic take of Pennywise though it is unclear if he is still on board after the directorial changes for the film.
