Marvel went into space with ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and now they are tackling the supernatural with ‘Doctor Strange.’ Ever since the film was announced to be in development, fans have been curious how the studio would handle this somewhat uncharted aspect of the superhero genre and from the looks of this first trailer, it looks like they are spot on!
The film centers on the arrogant neurosurgeon Steven Strange (played by Benedict Cumberbatch) whose hands become severely crippled after a horrific car accident thus ending his surgical career. Desperate to find a cure, he travels the world and ends up meeting The Ancient One (Tilda Swinton) who teaches him there is more to life than what we perceive and begins Strange’s journey into becoming the Sorcerer Supreme.
Along with Cumberbatch and Tilden, ‘Doctor Strange’ stars Chiwetel Ejiofor as Karl Mordo, a fellow disciple of The Ancient One, Mads Mikkelsen who plays the main villain of the film, Benedict Wong, Michael Stuhlbarg as Nicodemus West, and Rachel McAdams.
Yes, the film looks to be a truly mind-bending mystical ride so much so that Ben Davis who was the film’s director of photography stated that ‘Doctor Strange’ would be Marvel’s ‘Fantasia.’ (How apropos considering Disney owns Marvel).
So “forget everything you think you know” and get the first look at ‘Doctor Strange’ below!
Directed by Scott Derrickson, ‘Doctor Strange’ stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Tilda Swinton, Mads Mikkelsen, and Rachel McAdams and appear in theaters on November 4.
