For those unfamiliar with comic lore, one of the stranger shots from ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice‘ was how we were introduced to Cyborg. There will be a scene spoiler ahead as well as some DC lore that is about to be thrown your way. If you haven’t seen the movie yet or want to wait for the next movie to start explaining what we saw, then by all means hit that back button now!

Still here? Good.

So the scene in question takes place while Bruce Wayne and Diana Prince have hacked into Lex Luthor’s systems and found out that he is tracking humans with super abilities. Much like S.H.I.E.L.D. and Hydra in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, Luthor is watching everyone. Instead of the government, Big Brother is actually from the machinations of a madman in charge of one of the largest corporations on Earth. Not only that, but this is how we end up finding out that The Flash, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, and Cyborg are really already all out there in the world.

For most of these heroes we get the one quick clip of The Flash stopping a robbery, Aquaman spotted deep under water, and a century old picture of Wonder Woman still looking great in all of her glory. The true prize though is seeing Joe Morton’s Dr. Silas Stone over at S.T.A.R. Labs where he is working on his son Victor played by Ray Fisher. He is unable to help him until he introduces a shapeshifting box into the mix which not only attaches itself to Victor but saves him by turning him into a cyborg.

Specifically, turning him into the future superhero Cyborg.

So what was this strange box? Quite simply put by director Zack Snyder:

“That’s the first glimpse of the Mother Box there. It was an agonizing birth. I really wanted to show Cyborg’s birth because I feel like he plays such a strong part coming up, and I really wanted to give a sense of him. I really want [the audience] to know how far he’s come.”

Long term fans of DC know that a Mother Box is alien in nature and can do just about anything when attached to a host. In fact, the first deleted scene from ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ seems to hint at where the Mother Box came from though it seems unlikely we’ll know too much until the ‘Ultimate Cut’ drops later this year.

Did you guess that Cyborg’s creation was due to a Mother Box at work? Do you think we’ll see more of this in future deleted scenes? Share your thoughts below!

‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice: Ultimate Cut’ will be released on July 16th, 2016.
