Last week, ABC announced fifteen shows that would be receiving early renewals. Among them were the comedies ‘Fresh Off The Boat’ and ‘The Goldbergs’, the breakout drama ‘Quantico’, fairytale mash-up ‘Once Upon A Time’, and Marvel’s ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’. However, the House of Ideas’ other fan-favorite series ‘Agent Carter’ was not among the list of returning shows. This isn’t much of a surprise since ratings for the second season were lower than expected. Star Hayley Atwell also landed the lead in the new legal drama ‘Conviction’, so many thought that Agent Peggy Carter had gone on her last mission for sure. But according to a new report, there’s still some hope left for everyone’s favorite SSR agent to saddle up for a new adventure once again.
Despite scoring favorable reviews on par with the first season, ‘Agent Carter’ suffered from really low ratings. In a substantial drop from last year’s finale that drew 4.02 million viewers and a 1.3 in adults 18-49, the final episode of season two drew 2.5 million viewers and a 0.7 in adults 18-49. But against all odds, Nerd Reactor reports that their “source within the studio” said that the network will be sticking with the show and renewing it for a third season. This is certainly very welcome news for True Believers that want to see even more of Peggy’s exploits on the small screen. Plus, with a major cliffhanger ending like that, how could we not get a third season, right? Keep in mind though that no official word has dropped yet by Marvel or ABC, so be sure to take this news with a grain of salt for now. But it’s not over until it’s over, so stay hopeful!
Do you hope that ‘Agent Carter’ is renewed for another season? Where do you think another season would take Peggy, Howard Stark, Mr. and Mrs. Jarvis, Chief Daniel Sousa, and the rest of the gang? Sound off with your thoughts and theories in the comments below.
