While True Believers may have a great love for Peggy Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it seems like ‘Agent Carter’ isn’t getting the ratings that the network would like. However, the show’s star Hayley Attwell won’t be leaving ABC should the SSR’s top agent be discharged as the actress has just landed another gig with the channel.

According to Deadline, Attwell has landed the lead role in an upcoming pilot from ‘Jessica Jones’ writer Liz Friedman called ‘Conviction’. The show will follow Carter Morrison, “the brilliant but ne’er-do-well daughter of a former President, who is blackmailed into taking a job as the head of Los Angeles’ newly created Conviction Integrity Unit”. She and her team will work to explore cases “where there’s credible suspicion that the wrong person may have been convicted of a crime”.

But what does this mean for Peggy Carter, Edwin Jarvis, Howard Stark, and the rest of the gang if the new pilot goes to series? Well, reports say that the network is willing to work out Attwell’s schedule to accommodate both ‘Agent Carter’ and ‘Conviction’, which shouldn’t be too hard since the former has only been eight episodes per season. However, that would depend on whether the MCU series even gets picked up for a third season. The ratings for the House of Ideas’ spy drama are apparently so modest that chances of a renewal are highly improbable. Though the show has faced these problems in the past, it doesn’t sound like our heroine can recuperate enough to survive this particular fight.

If ‘Agent Carter’ is cancelled, there are sure to be many very upset fans. Although, ABC does seem to be in the business of one off specials these days. We’ve seen a few brand new ‘Toy Story’ tales in the past and there’s a ‘Frozen’ one in the pipeline also. Why not have Peggy live on in her own special or some new Marvel One-Shot shorts? Well, let’s cross that bridge when we get there. For now, let us know what you think about this whole situation in the comments below.
