After the trailer dropped earlier this month, True Believers are no doubt super excited for ‘Captain America: Civil War’. Although, they probably aren’t looking forward to seeing Cap and Iron Man come to blows. Well, if you think that’s bad, then things may potentially be getting worse for you if this new report turns out to be true. This is war after all and war always has casualties.

This should go without saying, but there are potential SPOILERS AHEAD.

Previously, when the upcoming Phase Three film started shooting, photos of extras dressed for a funeral surfaced online. Rumors stated that this was for Peggy Carter’s final farewell from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but now we may have all the details. According to That Hashtag Show, the scene will indeed show the burial of Hayley Atwell’s beloved character at the beginning of the movie. During this sequence, Steve Rogers will reconnect with Sharon Carter, who we last saw in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’. They likely have plenty to catch up on after the events of ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’, but chances are that we’ll see seeds of a budding romance between the two start to blossom.

But the funerals won’t stop there.  As many have probably predicted by now, ‘Civil War’ will conclude with plot points from Ed Brubaker’s acclaimed story arc titled ‘The Death of Captain America’. Just as in the comic, the Star-Spangled Avenger will surrender himself to the government in order for his allies to be spared. However, as he is en route to do so, the captain is assassinated by Brock Rumlow AKA Crossbones.

Finally, a new hero is in line to take up the mantle of Captain America following Rogers’ death. The outlet’s sources say that a scene has been shot that involves three people donning the stars and stripes. While fans can probably guess two of these characters fairly easily, the third is sure to make some majors waves. Are you ready? The scene will supposedly feature Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, and Emily VanCamp stepping up as the new Cap. Though the comics see Bucky Barnes take up the legendary mantle in this story, it would be pretty crazy if Kevin Feige and the rest of the MCU architects shook things up by bringing Sam Wilson or Sharon Carter to the forefront of this franchise (despite Agent 13 never assuming the identity in the comics).

Though I really want to see BuckyCap on the big screen and FalconCap is starting to grow on me in the comics, I’m really stoked at the idea of Sharon becoming Captain America in the MCU. Though she wouldn’t be the first female to ever take up the mantle in Marvel history, she would be the first major live-action gender-swapped superhero. Plus, it would create a world distinctly different from the source material that contains some pretty awesome possibilities for the future.

What do you think about these possible spoilers for ‘Captain America: Civil War’? Who do you think will wield the shield and become the new Captain America when all of this is said and done? Let us know in the comments.
