Almost two months ago, we reported that Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman was in talks for a role in the presently filming ‘Wonder Woman’ as a “high ranking Amazon warrior.”  Though it was never confirmed, many speculated that she might be playing Gal Gadot’s mother Queen Hippolyte, but when the movie began filming in England at the end of November, Warner Brothers issued an official statement, with a cast listing.  Kidman’s name was a noticeable omission.

One name that some noticed was that of Robin Wright, though her role was not revealed.  Because Wright is close in age to Kidman, it was assumed that the talks with Kidman didn’t work out and that Wright had taken the role.

Now comes confirmation that Kidman’s schedule did not permit her to take the part in ‘Wonder Woman’ but that Wright had actually been cast as a different character.  Now there is question as to whether that will remain the case or if there will be some shuffling, with Wright switching to take over whatever role Kidman had been negotiating for or if Warner Brothers will look to another actor.

Variety’s Justin Kroll revealed this information via Twitter:

Since Kidman’s potential role is still unconfirmed, there’s no way to say whether or not Wright might also be suitable for it.  And likewise, it is currently unknown what role Wright was originally selected to play. But at any rate, Write, currently starring on the Netflix hit ‘House of Cards’ is sure to bring some weight and drama to the film.

Directed by Patty Jenkins, ‘Wonder Woman’ also stars Chris Pine as Captain Steve Trevor, along with Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Ewen Bremner, Saïd Taghmaoui, Elena Anaya and Lucy Davis.  The movie is set for release on June 23rd, 2017.

Are you upset that Kidman won’t be in it?  What role would you like to see Robin Wright play in the Wonderverse?
