Vin Diesel had already told us that the next ‘Riddick‘ film might take place on Furyan but this is the first that we’ve heard it could also be an origin story. Once again the actor has taken to social media to tell us of his upcoming projects and this time around he talks about the latest inclusion in the universe that ‘Pitch Black’ launched and it isn’t quite the direction we might have thought it would be. Once again the actor has taken to social media to tell us of his upcoming projects and this time around he talks about the latest inclusion in the universe that ‘Pitch Black’ launched and it isn’t quite the direction we might have thought it would be. I’m sure that most of us would imagine that the next film to take place after the events of ‘Riddick’ or possibly explore the fallout from ‘The Chronicles of Riddick’ but it’s now looking it could be an origin story. With a working title of ‘Furya,’ which is where Riddick came from, the film is set to shoot in 2017 and be more “expansive in its mythology” of the Verse.

There is no news if we’ll be getting an origin of how Riddick will change going forward, have a new story that also flashbacks to his origins, or if this will strictly follow a younger Riddick. Honestly, I’m not sure that I care what direction it takes, Diesel has proven that his cheesy science fiction flicks work and I’ll be lining up to check out the next one.

You can watch the reveal in the video below!

While its good to hear that the film is still on track to be made, part of me was hoping for a few more hints at details. Or perhaps some information on how the television series spinoff that follows the mercenaries in Riddick’s world is doing.

Are you happy to hear that ‘Riddick’ is returning? How do you think he’ll pull off an origin story and have it tie to the planet of his character’s birth? Share your thoughts below!
