Syfy has been trying to capture us with a new space opera since ‘Battlestar Galactica‘ and while the ‘Ascension‘ miniseries had potential and both ‘Dark Matter’ and ‘Killjoys‘ were fun, it looks like ‘The Expanse’ might be what we’ve been waiting for. A sexy space drama with mystery and suspense might not be the first thing you think of when wanting a show to replace ‘Battlestar Galactica’ in your heart. At its very core, the series could have taken place in any setting as it was the human drama that brought us in and ‘The Expanse’ looks to be delivering on just that.

As a bonus the network has also released 18 promotional photos which we have to share with you if you’re unable to watch the episode now but want to get a feeling for the visual tone of the series.
I have to admit that I love how the look of this series is shaping up. Visually it feels like ‘Battlestar Galactica’ meets ‘Firefly’ and hits all the high notes. I really hope they’ve got a winner on their hands here as there just isn’t enough quality television set in space these days.
