‘Gotham’ has found someone to play Mr. Freeze as Nathan Darrow (‘House of Cards’,’Ambrose Bierce: Civil War Stories’) has joined Fox’s cast of Batman’s future Rogue Gallery. I mean at this point, I doubt there is going to be a single notable enemy of Batman’s who hasn’t been introduced before we see Bruce even seriously think about fighting crime let alone be the Caped Crusader. With The Riddler, The Penguin, Catwoman, and so many more already introduced it is really getting crowded on the streets of Gotham and we have no one but a corrupt police force to keep the citizens safe so far.
The tagline of the second season is “Rise of the Villains” and with how many are being introduced so far they are truly living up to it. On the series we’ll be seeing Darrow play Victor Fries who will eventually end up as Mr. Freeze. When we are first introduced to the character he will be a leading cryogenics engineer.
A true genius, his intelligence though comes at a price as he struggles when it comes to social interactions. The one exception to that rule is his wife Nora whose very life is threatened from having developed a terminal disease. In order to save her we see Victor trying to freeze his wife and keep her alive until a cure can be discovered. The perfect setup for this character even if it seems to be happening far too early just like so many of Batman’s other future villains.
I’m sure we can all agree that no matter how his performance ends up it will be miles ahead of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s take on the role in ‘Batman & Robin‘.
