If you’ve been looking forward to ‘Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters 2‘ actually happening its starting to look like your dream sequel is being cancelled. As the first film did make money both domestically and overseas there was never a huge rush by the studio to actually making it happen. The film was fun though the pre-production for a follow up has been plagued with problems with Tommy Wikola not planning on returning to direct and after his announcement there was no official word on what might be happening to it. A couple months back we heard that newcomer Bruno Aveillan was lined up to sit in the director’s chair and now that no longer appears to be the case.

It looks like the entire plan has changed though as producer Gary Sanchez wants to tackle the series a different way and is working with Paramount TV and MGM to instead bring Hansel and Gretel back as an ongoing series. With the big shake up it is doubtful that we’ll see Gemma Arterton and Jeremy Renner returning to reprise their roles or if Aveillan will still be attached to direct.

With Paramount already bringing Jack Ryan to the small screen and Fox and CBS taking follow ups to ‘Minority Report’ and ‘Limitless’ the same route, it wouldn’t surprise me if we see more of these in the future. A fantasy world if done right can have a great outlet on television as ‘Game of Thrones’ has shown but we’ll have to wait and see if the adventures of Hansel and Gretel can capture that same kind of magic.

It’ll be interesting to see if Neil Giaman’s ‘Hansel and Gretel can capture the big screen attention that the first film clearly wasn’t able to.

Do you feel that we’re missing out by not getting ‘Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters 2’ or are you happy to hear that a ‘Hansel and Gretel’ television series could fuel years of monster fighting entertainment? Share your thoughts below!
