Fans of Charlie Brooker’s ‘Black Mirror’ are going to be excited at the news that Netflix is picking up where the UK’s Channel 4 left off and will produce new episodes of the show! I’m generally not a big fan of anthology series these days as I’ve fallen in love with the longer reaching story arcs, but ‘Black Mirror’ is a clear stand out to me. This mixture of black humor, science fiction, horror, and social commentary has me hooked. While the previous seasons included a total of 6 episodes and a Christmas special, one can only hope that the large international fan base that Netflix has given the series and the money they can throw at it will give us a longer third season.
That being said, if we only get three more episodes I’ll still end up happy.
While the series was originally created for UK’s Channel 4, the streaming media behemoth has struck a deal with Booker’s House of Tomorrow production studio for making “multiple new episodes.”
For those of you who haven’t taken the time to binge watch it quite yet, think of it as a dark take on humanity’s relationship with technology. The events of the series take place in a near dystopian future that reflects how technology is bringing the downfall to various aspects of our society. While it is in no way calling for us to abandon the technology that has become such a part of our lives, it does give us a perspective at where it could lead us if gone unchecked.
With the news being so fresh there is of course no word as to when a third season will be filmed and air. One can only hope that Brooker has already had one in the works.
