Though they don’t have much of a history together in the pages of Marvel Comics, the cinematic versions of Peter Quill and Yondu played by Chris Pratt and Michael Rooker have been through a lot. And when ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ lands on Disney XD this fall, the animated series will follow suit. However, unlike the movie, it appears that we’ll get to see how the duo’s first adventure together played out.
Before the show officially makes it’s debut on September 26th at 9:30pm, the channel will air a series of shorts introducing us to Star-Lord, Gamora, Groot, Rocket Raccoon, and Drax the Destroyer each weekend leading up to the premiere. The first origin that True Believers will get to see appears to be the legendary outlaw because Entertainment Tonight has recently revealed a clip from that short. In the video, you can see how Quill came to meet Yondu and the Ravagers for the first time. Actually, it’s “the Ravagers”, but either way, here’s the preview followed by the official synopsis of the series:
“Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy” features themes of redemption and the importance of friendships and family told through a series of riveting sequential story arcs. The series follows the newly-formed team who finds a strange artifact keyed only to the DNA of Peter Quill. Upon opening it, Quill unleashes a treasure map leading to a powerful weapon known as the Cosmic Seed, which is capable of giving birth to the next universe. It’s up to the Guardians to find, protect and ultimately destroy the Cosmic Seed in order to keep it out of the hands of those who would abuse its power, from galactic big boss Thanos, to the conniving brothers the Collector and the Grandmaster, to a resurrected Ronan, to the ultimate trickster, Loki, in order to save the universe.
As you may have noticed, this is only a portion of the second part of Star-Lord’s origin story. The short will air in it’s entirety on Disney XD, but if you don’t feel like waiting until then, you can see all of “Part 1” on iTunes right now.
