Following the success James Gunn’s 2014 blockbuster, it’s no surprise that Marvel is putting more focus on the Guardians of the Galaxy in all aspects of the company. From becoming major players in the pages of Marvel Comics to becoming more prominent in video games, toys, and other merchandise, Star-Lord and his team of intergalactic misfits are everywhere these days. But come this fall, they’ll be exploring the universe even more in their very own animated series on Disney XD. Now, ahead of its September 26th series premiere, we have the first promo for the upcoming show.

Earlier this week, the first ad for the upcoming cartoon starring the unexpected fan favorites of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While it will not be directly related to its live-action counterpart, the show will draw elements from the big screen version, starting with the look of the main characters, which you can get a quick glimpse of in the 15-second spot. Sure, if you blink, you might miss it, but this is still the first footage from the show, so check it out below, followed by the official synopsis:

“Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy” features themes of redemption and the importance of friendships and family told through a series of riveting sequential story arcs. The series follows the newly-formed team who finds a strange artifact keyed only to the DNA of Peter Quill. Upon opening it, Quill unleashes a treasure map leading to a powerful weapon known as the Cosmic Seed, which is capable of giving birth to the next universe. It’s up to the Guardians to find, protect and ultimately destroy the Cosmic Seed in order to keep it out of the hands of those who would abuse its power, from galactic big boss Thanos, to the conniving brothers the Collector and the Grandmaster, to a resurrected Ronan, to the ultimate trickster, Loki, in order to save the universe.

First announced back at last year’s New York Comic Con, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ will feature the voice talents of Will Friedle as Star-Lord, Trevor Devall as Rocket Raccoon, Vanessa Marshall as Gamora, David Sobolov as Drax the Destroyer, Kevin Michael Richardson as Groot, and James Arnold Taylor as Yondu and Cosmo. Prior to its official debut on the 26th at 9:30pm, Disney XD will air the first episode as a sneak peek on Saturday, September 5th at 9:00pm after a month-long introduction to the team.

What do you think about the first promo for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’? Do you think that it will be better than Marvel Animation’s other shows such as ‘Avengers Assemble’, ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’, or ‘Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.’? Let us know in the comment section.
