We heard rumors about a month back that Nikolaj Arcel (‘A Royal Affair’,’Truth About Men’) was being courted to direct Stephen King’s ‘The Dark Tower‘ and at San Diego Comic-Con 2015 it has been made official! Sony Pictures and Media Rights Capital jointly announced that they closed the deal with the director and that he has brought on a writer as well. Arcel will be working with fellow Danish filmmaker Anders Thomas Jensen (‘Brothers’,’In a Better World’) to re-write the script which had been put together by Akiva Goldsman and Jeff Pinkner.

The plan is still to have a series of films with a complementary television series which is being developed by MRC. No word as to which network will end up airing the series.

The first novel will follow the events of ‘The Gunslinger’ which is probably the novel lightest on action as it introduces us to the world of Roland Deschain, the last gunslinger. I can’t even begin to explain how excited I am that the film is finally moving forward.

What are your thoughts on Arcel directing ‘The Dark Tower’? Who would you like to see play Roland on the big screen? Share your thoughts below!

Novel Synopsis:

This heroic fantasy is set in a world of ominous landscape and macabre menace that is a dark mirror of our own. A spellbinding tale of good versus evil, it features one of Stephen King’s most powerful creations—The Gunslinger, a haunting figure who embodies the qualities of the lone hero through the ages, from ancient myth to frontier western legend.

The Gunslinger’s quest involves the pursuit of The Man in Black, a liaison with the sexually ravenous Alice, and a friendship with the kid from Earth called Jake. Both grippingly realistic and eerily dreamlike, here is stunning proof of Stephen King’s storytelling sorcery.
