Prepare yourself for information overload as the internet is abuzz with all the recent news about Paul Feig’s ‘Ghostbusters‘ reboot. Aside from some cool set photos released of Melissa McCarthy in her ‘Ghostbusters’ uniform, Feig has also released a detailed photo of the new proton pack for the team riddled with notes and expository information to show audiences how seriously he is taking the franchise’s mythology and the potential for the new film.
Also announced were 4 new supporting stars for the film, the first of which is Mr. Andy Garcia (‘Ocean’s 11’), who is rumored to be filling the role of the Mayor of New York City. Next up is Michael K. Williams (‘The Wire’), who will be playing a character known as Hawkins in the film. 3rd up is another SNL active member, Cecily Strong, though we have yet to learn the name of her character in the movie. Finally, we have the great Matt Walsh (‘Veep’), who we know will be playing a character named Rourke. The cast is truly shaping up to be something phenomenal, and it is nice to see the public begin to realize that Paul Feig’s take on the classic franchise might just be something amazing next summer when it is released on July 22, 2016.
And here’s a bit from the Boston Herald that reveals what the plot may be about:
Wiig and McCarthy play a pair of unheralded authors who write a book positing that ghosts are real. Flash forward a few years and Wiig lands a prestigious teaching position at Columbia U. Which is pretty sweet, until her book resurfaces and she is laughed out of academia.Wiig reunites with McCarthy and the other two proton pack-packing phantom wranglers, and she gets some sweet revenge when ghosts invade Manhattan and she and her team have to save the world.
