This fall, STARZ is ready to go boom(stick) with ‘Ash Vs. Evil Dead,’ a new series based on the cult classic ‘Evil Dead’ films, reuniting star Bruce Campbell with director Sam Raimi and producer Rob Tapert. The show picks up 30 years after the last installment ‘Army of Darkness,’ with hero Ash still working as a stock boy at Value Stop.
Says Campbell:
“He was perfectly happy doing basically nothing: telling lies about how he lost his hand in bars late at night. That was basically his MO. So, he’s not really the guy who should be dealing with this right now. But…he is. He’s our guy!”
Fans of the Raimi/Campbell ‘Evil Dead‘ franchise are passionate and have waited years for a return visit to this over-the-top series, with new films seemingly always in the discussion phase but never coming to fruition. The wait is over! Or rather it will be in a few months, when the show arrives, but until then, here is something that will surely tide you over at least for a while – the first photo of Bruce Campbell as Ash!
Joining Ash in… whatever he is doing here… are co-workers Pablo (Ray Santiago) and Kelly (Dana DeLorenzo).
Campbell discussed his new role involving these younger cast members by saying:
“It’s The Searchers with carnage and mayhem. I’m relegated a little bit into the John Wayne mode these days with my team—the young, virile, evil fighters who will pair up with Ash and take on this nemesis: this never ending, ever evolving nemesis.”
Joining Campbell, Raimi and Tapert is showrunner Craig DiGregorio, formerly of the hit ‘Reaper.’ Also part of the cast are Jill Marie Jones, Mimi Rogers and Tapert’s wife and former Campbell and Raimi collaborator Lucy Lawless.
