With comic book movies being the new in thing, it should be no surprise that Matthew McConaughey (‘Interstellar‘,’Dallas Buyers Club ‘) has been courted for a role or two – and it actually sounds as if both Marvel Studios and DC Entertainment have reached out to him. Why haven’t we heard about an official casting announcement? Well, none of the scripts he has read has had the right “story and character” for him to keep interested.
In his exact words:
“But I would also look at something like that and say, ‘Hey, in success that means you are on the train for a while.’ Contractually, you’re going to return to the character over and over. It’s something I asked myself is it something I’d want to return to. Would I be excited to go back and put the shoes on the character again? Going and doing the press tour with that group of people again? I always ask myself those questions again. It starts with the story and character.”
Okay, from an actor who pretty much has his pick of the litter right now I can fully get that. If he does take one of these roles it would be one that could define a good portion of his career so it would have to be something that he was excited about. Which characters has he been pitched though?
“I’ve read some Marvel and DC scripts and I’ve talked about working with them on some scripts, none of which I’ll share with with you what they are — or were. Yeah, I’ve circled some of those. Nothing has been right for me yet. But I’m sure open to it.”
Of course we aren’t going to get told that one. While I couldn’t hazard a guess as to a DC character that he would be a perfect fit for, I have a few Marvel ones that he might find intriguing.
The first and for me perfect fit for him would be Mark Spector or Moon Knight. The military man brought back to life to be the Avatar of a God who ends up with a split personality disorder seems as if it would be a good fit for McConaughey. The problem is that Moon Knight is so out of the realm of the Marvel Universe’s current direction I could see him as more of a supporting character or someone deserving of say a Netflix series over a blockbuster movie.
Who else would be a good fit? Potentially the Earth born Nova. Richard Ryder would make for a great addition to the galactic side of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe. He has a pretty solid origin story and has gone through quite a bit of character evolution over the years which could be played off of.
Which universe would you rather see McConaughey become a part of? More specifically which character do you think he could tackle and be happy with? Share your thoughts below!
