Franchise creator George Miller spent 25 years in development hell, attempting to revisit the desolate future world that proved so memorable in the 80s ‘Mad Max’ films, which proved so influential and among other things, launched Mel Gibson’s stellar acting career. Now, nearly 30 years after the last ‘Mad Max’ movie, Miller has returned, co-writing, producing and directing ‘Mad Max: Fury Road.’ The torch of the title hero has now been passed, with Tom Hardy stepping into the role – his biggest to date. ‘Fury Road’ also features superstar Charlize Theron as Imperator Furiosa. Hopes are high that this film will lead to a new franchise, with Hardy signed on to reprise the part in two additional movies.
Theron takes center stage at the beginning of the latest trailer which gives a longer view of this desert wasteland setting. In the movie, Max must escort four mysterious women across the desert to escape overlord Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne). Obviously, it would be a short movie if it were that simple. All hell breaks loose and the antihero finds himself in conflict with the marauding forces viewers have come to expect in these films.
Check out the new trailer below:
Haunted by his turbulent past, Mad Max believes the best way to survive is to wander alone. Nevertheless, he becomes swept up with a group fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by an elite Imperator Furiosa. They are escaping a Citadel tyrannized by the Immortan Joe, from whom something irreplaceable has been taken. Enraged, the Warlord marshals all his gangs and pursues the rebels ruthlessly in the high-octane Road War that follows.
