Syfy’s shows have always been hit or miss for me, but with some gems like ‘Battlestar: Galactica‘ under their belt, I can’t help but give them a chance any time I see a new show premiering that appears intriguing. ‘Olympus’ is one of those shows, delving into Greek mythology, including immortals and the gods, in ways reminiscent of ‘Hercules: The Legendary Journeys,’ except taking matters a lot more serious. I can’t help but be drawn into shows about Greek mythologies, as the tragedies of the gods and the humans they step over has always been an interest of mine, as the selfish and rather human gods are so different than gods found in other mythologies.

Below is the first trailer released for Syfy’s ‘Olympus’ with the synopsis under that. The trailer itself has a lot of action, special effects that seem an upgrade from other Syfy projects (though a far cry from cinema level special effects), and an intriguing storyline involving the King of Athens, blood that can make one immortal, a fight with a Cyclops, and lots of warriors and battles. Can the show live up to its inaugural trailer and the hype it is beginning to cast? We’ll find out when it premieres on April 2nd on Syfy.

Let us know your thoughts on the trailer below in the comments!

A young man’s mythical quest to solve the riddle of the Gods, unlock the doors to Olympus and become an immortal. Hero’s epic journey leads him through the darkest realms of Ancient Greece accompanied by the beautiful, but twisted Oracle of Gaia, the powerful sorceress Medea and genius inventor Daedalus. Hero battles trickster gods, vicious monsters, seductive nymphs, kings and despots, as he transforms from fresh-faced naive into a ruthless, coldhearted killer, and match for the gods themselves.

‘Olympus’ will air Thursdays at 10pm ET/PT on the Syfy network beginning April 2.
