The Crow‘ has had a rocky couple of months though now the studio has cast Jack Huston to play Eric Draven!

Since the reboot had been announced, we saw director F. Javier Gutiérrez step down from the series to direct ‘Rings’ though he was quickly replaced by Corin Hardy. After that we heard that Luke Evans was leaving the film starless. Series creator James O’Barr wanted to have Sam Witwer to take on the lead but it sounds as if that didn’t work out.

Witwer might have had more screen credit when it comes to genre films but Huston is easily a bigger name. Huston has starred in such films as ‘American Hustle,’ ‘The Twilight Saga: Eclipse’ and ‘Outlander’ as well as the upcoming ‘Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.’ That being said, O’Barr doesn’t seem too shaken up that his first round pick didn’t get the gig. He first said that “Jack Huston has definitely been cast” and followed that up with the fact that he was “really happy with that choice.”

While I personally think I would have preferred to see Witwer in the role, I am a fan of Huston’s work. I don’t think he’ll have any problem bringing us a believable take on Eric Draven. It was only a matter of time until we heard of an announcement as the film “will shoot in a couple of months” which didn’t give them much time to scramble for a lead.

As previously mentioned the new film will more closely follow the source material from O’Barr’s comic series. The comics were greatly strayed from in the first film and butchered in the so called sequels. When talking about the direction he would take the movie, Hardy said that “I’m very much going back to the graphic novel, particularly looking into the illustrations themselves as much as the story, and picking out all those beautiful ideas and details that haven’t really been used yet.”

I really am willing to give this one the benefit of the doubt but mainly because there was so much from the comic series that was left out or changed in the first film.

What do you think of the remake of ‘The Crow’? Are you interested in checking it out since it will be true to the source material which the beloved Brandon Lee flick was not? Share your thoughts below!
