Indie developer Frozenbyte has released a trailer announcing the newest entry in the ‘Trine’ series, entitled ‘Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power.’

Much like its predecessors, ‘Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power’ will also be focusing on single-player or cooperative physics-based puzzle solving using a team of three characters, each equipped with their own unique set of abilities. By the gameplay trailer below, the series’ trio will once again return with the wizard, the thief and the knight all coming back for players to control on yet another journey.

From the looks of it, ‘Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power’ also appears to be taking a different approach in terms of its gameplay this time around by featuring movement on a fully 3D plane, allowing players to move freely into a level’s foreground and background. This is a bit of a shift for the series seeing as previous games always had players strictly traversing on a 2D plane despite its 3D graphical presentation.

For those who don’t follow the ‘Trine’ games, they are a series of  physics-based puzzler solving games that are set in a colorful medieval fantasy universe. Ever since its first entry was released back in 2009, the series has been generally well received with both series entries garnering positive reception among gamers and critics. In total, the series has sold over 7 million copies across both its entries.

‘Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power’ is being developed by Frozenbyte, a Finnish independent game developer formed in 2001. On top of their work on the ‘Trine’ series, Frozenbyte have also developed two titles in the ‘Shadowgrounds’ series and a mobile title called ‘Splot.’

‘Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power’ is expected to release first on Windows PC sometime in 2015, while other potential release platforms are stated by Frozenbyte to be revealed later.
