During the first season of ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’, Jamie Alexander reprised her role as Lady Sif from ‘Thor’ and ‘Thor: The Dark World’ in one of the best episodes of the series to date that saw the mighty Asgardian warrior team up with Agent Coulson and his team to track down the sorceress Lorelei. Apparently that last appearance went over so well that the showrunners are bringing the character back for the second season as well.

According to TV Insider, Alexander will join ‘The Tomorrow People’ star Luke Mitchell, Blair Underwood of ‘Gattaca’, and veteran actor Edward James Olmos as guest stars on ABC’s Marvel series as guest stars in the second half of season two. Sif will appear in the second episode back from the midseason break where she returns to Earth for an undercover mission that finds her clashing with a powerful villain that has yet to be revealed. When S.H.I.E.L.D. learns of this battle, the agents rush to Portugal to help their ally, however, they find that she has lost her short-term memory. Executive producer Jeffrey Bell sheds some light on the decision to bring back Lady Sif:

“Sif has no idea who Thor is or that she serves a king, and we’re going to have fun with that. It’ll give us some much-needed humor in a season that’s been full of betrayal and death. Sif can’t even recall who she came here from Asgard to stop, but Agent Coulson and his team will try to help her figure all that out.”

Despite a few details of her life being fuzzy, Sif will still retain a few details of her life here and there. Bell goes on to say that she’ll remember enough to come in handy when she learns of what has been happening on Earth with the Obelisk, Inhumans, and the like:

“We’ve been dealing a lot with space aliens and Inhumans in our last few episodes—things our Earth-bound heroes just don’t know much about. They need help understanding what’s really going on. Sif’s memory—what’s left of it—will come in very handy.”

Based on my rating of the last episode we saw her in, I’m definitely excited to see the return of Lady Sif to ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’, but what about you? Are you excited to see Jamie Alexander return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe? What do you think about the circumstances that bring her back? And do you have any theories on who she has been sent to deal with? Share your thoughts and theories in the comments below.
