It looks as if Agent Melinda May is going to be joining the likes of Lance Hunter and Bobbi Morse with being caught up in past romantic drama as Blair Underwood (‘Gattaca’,’The Event’) is set to join the cast as her estranged ex-husband Dr. Andrew Garner on Marvel’s ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’. Honestly the show is no stranger to romances with the relationship that Skye and Grant have had, not to mention Fitz Simmons, or the cello player from Coulson’s past. As we all know so far that while these previous romances aren’t going quite the way of a ‘Game of Thrones’ wedding, they’ve all had a “few” bumps along the way.

While we won’t know much about his character we do find out that he is a Neurologist and Forensic Psychologist who previously worked with gifted individuals on the Index so either was a member of S.H.I.E.L.D. or at least worked with it. Will the estrangement have been due to personal issues or will we find that since the massive shake up in the intelligence community that he has ended up working for Hydra?

Underwood’s character is set to premiere in an episode next March and is already starting to film for his role on the show. As an actor he has earned two Golden Globe award nominations over the years and has been in everything from dramas to science fiction to starring on Broadway.

According to Executive Producer and Marvel’s Head of Television Jeph Loeb, “With Blair, we knew we’d found someone to perfectly complement May’s stoic personality. Fans have wondered about her ex-husband since she first referenced him, and Blair has the presence and charm to stand up to our Agent Melinda May.”

What do you think of the show switching things up to focus on another ex-lover on the show? Do you think we need more of May’s past to be revealed? Will Dr. Andrew Garner end up being a help or hindrance to our team? Share your thoughts below true believers!

Marvel’s ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ will return on Tuesday, March 3rd at 9/8c on ABC
