Before you get too worked up, this isn’t news about a ‘Game of Thrones’ movie but it seems that the last two episodes of the fourth season of HBO‘s hit series are going to be getting the IMAX treatment! HBO and IMAX have just closed a new deal and one of the benefits will at the very least be the last 2 episodes of Season 4 (‘The Watchers on the Wall’ and ‘The Children‘) as well as an exclusive trailer for Season 5 in full IMAX glory!

These showing will play on 150 IMAX theaters from January 23rd to January 29th so you have a few days to be able to get out and see them. Though for key viewing nights tickets may sell out quick as they’ll be available “in the coming days.”

Chief executive of Imax Richard L. Gelfond says that “We see the past of our company and the future of our company as innovating in the way that content is displayed.”

While chief marketing officer at HBO Pamela Levine chimed in with “’Game of Thrones’ is one of the few television shows that has the scope and cinematic qualities to really support the Imax format.”

Seems like a great way to snag more marketing for HBO, more exclusive content for IMAX, and an IMAX experience that many of us would love to enjoy. I mean let’s be honest, who wouldn’t want to see those last fight scenes from the finale on one of the better screens out there?

With the new season not starting until April, this and   a 28-minute behind-the-scenes featurette on the innovations used to crate the upcoming season are two of the key teasers we’ll have to tide us over. Of course just because ‘Game of Thrones’ has one of the highest viewerships on television doesn’t mean they were able to pick and choose when this deal with IMAX could happen as Gelfond explains that, “It would be difficult to bump ‘Avengers’ or ‘Star Wars’ or ‘Bond’ to do something like this but in late January, you have a lot more flexibility.

Are you looking forward to ‘Game of Thrones’ returning this April? Do you think the IMAX treatment is how you now want to remember those spectacular fight scenes from the series finale? Sound off below!
