This article contains SPOILERS from ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, so if you are waiting for home video, you may want to turn back now.
Just in time for the holidays, James Gunn’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ arrives on BluRay and DVD on December 9th. As with every Marvel movie, the action space comedy will be released in multiple formats including deluxe versions loaded with extras.
One featurette focuses on Baby Groot, who pops up at the end of the movie, dancing to Peter ‘Star-Lord’ Quill’s ‘Awesome Mix’, specifically the 1968 song ‘Hooked On A Feeling’ by Blue Swede. Some fans were a bit confused by Baby Groot wondering if he was Groot, regenerating himself or in fact his offspring. Gunn has been cagey when asked about that, stating that it’s likely a subject that will be addressed in future movies (or maybe on the animated series?).
Instead, the featurette deals with the visual development of Baby Groot. Gunn explains that baby Groot wasn’t even designed until the entire movie had been shot, but that the visual effects team, working on his description pretty much nailed the design and it required very little tweaking. That goes for both versions that appear, a more crude version and the cuter, better evolved version, that does the dancing at the end.
Check out the featurette for yourself:
‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ took the Marvel Universe cosmic, when space-faring Earth thief Peter Quill/Star-Lord is thrown together with a rag-tag group of fellow space scoundrels, Gamora, Drax, Rocket and Groot and tasked with saving the galaxy from an even bigger threat.
The movie was an unexpected smash hit that closed out the summer with record-breaking ticket sales, further cementing Marvel’s box office clout.
Can you wait until Christmas or Hanukkah? Or will you be snapping this up for yourself the day it comes out?
