While we’ve all suspected that Jesse Eisenberg will bring a new take to Lex Luthor when ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice‘ is released in 2016 he recently sat down and decided to explain a little about the character. Of course, in the process of doing so he answers the question by not really giving us any details at all. Smooth Eisenberg, as smooth as we expect your head to be by the end of the film! Sure you might start out with hair but I personally don’t think you’ll be able to keep it.

Personally I think it is kind of hard to tell if Eisenberg is being serious or just trolling an audience but his recent commentary on comics may reveal he doesn’t know all that much about the character he is going to be taking up. When asked if he had picked up a slew of old Superman comics that focused on Luthor all he says is that he watched “that movie with Gene Hackman” and doesn’t know much about comics or comic-book movies.

With how big they are and the fact that he is starring in DC’s upcoming gamble at a cinematic universe to attempt and rival Marvel’s, that just doesn’t feel right. While he said he couldn’t talk much about other comic books or the film itself, he did say that he loves screenwriter Chris Terrio and what he has put together for the film:

“We were able to discuss things at length and figure out who this person is to create a real psychology behind what is, perhaps, in a comic book, a less than totally modern psychology. I can only say I’ve been asked to play an interesting role: a complicated, challenging person.”

Luthor should be complicated and challenging but that response also seemed to make it sound as if he didn’t have a strong nature of the character prior to what will be in this film. I understand taking a role and making it your own but for a part like this, too much disconnect can be an issue as well.

Of course he doesn’t live in a bubble with how big these movies have become. He says that “I realize how popular comic-book movies are, and now, working on one, I realize why they’re popular — the story is really good, the dialogue is really good, the artistry behind every department is high, the acting is really good. So if they’re all put together with that level of quality…”

If only he knew what he’s been missing out on all of these years.

What is your take on Eisenberg as Luthor? Are you excited at the casting or feel that this one is far too off for the character?

‘Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice’ is scheduled for May 6th, 2016.
