Marvel is going to be quite busy in a galaxy far far away as they will be reissuing an unknown number of the Dark Horse ‘Star Wars’ comics. As reported in the past, the House of Ideas is already set to bring us three new series of ‘Star Wars’ comics as well as reprints of the original Marvel ‘Star Wars’ issues. Now it looks like their deal will apparently allow them to reissue the Dark Horse versions as well.

At this time it hasn’t been announced as to which series from the Dark Horse vaults will get the reprint treatment, but they are all set to be done through the ‘Star Wars Legends‘ line in Marvel’s Epic Collection Format. For those unfamiliar with the line, ‘Star Wars Legends’ are all the older comics and books that are no longer considered to be canon by the studio. The Epic Collection Format also means that they will be full-color paperbacks that usually bundle together with roughly 20 issues. Most likely with ongoing story lines, this will be a give or take a few issues kind of situation.

David Gabriel, Marvel’s svp of sales and marketing said that the new books will “be bouncing around to different periods of Star Wars history with each Epic Collection, constructing one huge tapestry, collecting full unbroken runs of all the greatest Star Wars comics from the past 35 years.”

I’m not sure if unbroken is the right word as the first collection that is set to be released in April of 2015 is titled ‘Star Wars Legends Epic Collection: The Empire Vol. 1’ and will have material from four different series in order to create a retelling of the events following ‘Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith’ (which is now being explored in ‘Star Wars: Rebels’). I’m supposing he means the future runs will be complete ones and not a mash up of a time period like this one.

For fans of the ‘Star Wars’ universe that Dark Horse created, it was “as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced” as the last original books came from the company was released this month with ‘Star Wars: Legacy’ and ‘Star Wars: Darth Maul — Son of Dathomir’ coming to a close. Fans will be having to wait until January of 2015 for the first issues of Marvel’s new in-canon ‘Star Wars’ series to be released.

What do you think about the opportunity to start picking up collections of these books under the Marvel banner?
