With everyone seemingly on the bandwagon to do the Ice Bucket Challenge, it is often easy to forget the people afflicted with ALS (aka Lou Gehrig’s disease). One such person is the renowned astrophysicist Stephen Hawking.  The new film, ‘The Theory of Everything,’ will center on his life at the time of his diagnosis and we have the first poster to share from the film!

‘The Theory of Everything’ stars Eddie Redmayne (‘Jupiter Ascending,’ ‘Les Misérables’) as Hawking and Felicity Jones (‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2,’ ‘Doctor Who’) as his wife, Jane Wilde, whom he met at Cambridge. The film is based on her memoir ‘Travelling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen.’  Here’s the poster followed by the official synopsis of the film:

Once a healthy, active young man, Hawking received an earth-shattering diagnosis at 21 years of age. With Jane fighting tirelessly by his side, Stephen embarks on his most ambitious scientific work, studying the very thing he now has precious little of – time. Together, they defy impossible odds, breaking new ground in medicine and science, and achieving more than they could ever have dreamed.

While it is wonderful to be able to learn more about Hawking’s thoughts and ideas of the universe, the female geek in me loves the concept of science, romance and beating the odds.

The film will make its world premiere next month at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival before its US theatrical release in November.
