Some were hoping to see the cosmically-powered Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers in the breakout smash ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘ — at least in a post-credits sequence — but were instead treated to a different cosmic character.  But considering that Captain Marvel is arguably Marvel’s leading female character, she probably has the best hope of headlining her own movie.  So is the studio setting her up ahead of time?  Perhaps!

Devin Feraci from Badass Digest has disclosed:

“I have information about multiple drafts of Avengers: Age of Ultron, and all feature a cameo by a character the script calls Ms. Marvel (nothing else, including a civilian name or basic look, is specified). It’s a cameo, so it could change at any time, but the character is planned for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

Ms. Marvel, is of course, the former code name of Carol Danvers, back when she was essentially a spin-off from the male character Mar-Vell.  Currently, the name is employed by Muslim New Jersey teen Kamala Khan,  who has shape-shifting powers.

Marvel has long been rumored to be setting up Danvers/Captain Marvel as a movie-ready property, giving her a stronger code name and a more flattering costume.  With The Wasp apparently off the board, that essentially leaves The Scarlet Witch and Black Widow (or even Gamora) as possible headliners, but should Marvel push forward with Captain Marvel, that would establish a female protagonist with no connections to an existing property.

What do you think?  Would you like to see Captain Marvel on the big screen?  Or is there another female Marvel hero that you’d like to see in live-action first?
