The fallout from ‘Age of Ultron’ #10 and ‘Hunger’ #2 continues with the latest installment of ‘Hunger’ #3. I can’t believe we’ve only got 4 issues of this series as it is hard to see a feasible way to end this mini-series and have it wrap up the fact that Galactus has merged with the Ultimate Universe’s The Gah Lak Tus swarm and he’s still stuck in their universe.

Clearly this is just going to be a setup for the next major event in The Ultimates that takes place after Reed failed to complete the Infinity Gauntlet and save the universe. I’m just wondering how long until we see the big purple guy back in the 616 universe and who he’s going to end up bringing with him (this is still rumored to be the event that will finally end the Ultimate Universe. But, we’ve heard that before though.)

As Rick Jones and the Silver Surfer are back on Earth, they are battling the piece of the swarm that had followed them through Rick’s portal. They aren’t doing that great of a job (which makes you wonder how they will take on the big guy) when suddenly Captain Marvel pops in to save the day, with a big canon. While the Surfer tries to get all three of them to work as a team. one of the three are having none of it.

Rick takes this time to bug out and return to Earth while the other two take the fight to Galactus himself. His entire point for this is that The Watcher choose poorly when he picked Rick as his champion. He doesn’t feel up to it and leaves these two behind to try to actually take a moment and go home.

In his hometown Rick finds out that not only is Peter Parker dead but that he was Spider-Man. It’s a great scene and leads into an even better one near the end of the book where Mary Jane told her that Rick left to do great things and asks if he did. This was a great way to bring Parker’s mantra back in as this is what inspired Rick to do the right thing. Honestly, it was a very subtle tribute to him and while it could have come across as hokey, it honestly worked. This world’s version of Mary Jane delivered the line perfectly and it was written how she has been to date.

Back to Galactus and we see that Marvel’s attack against him does nothing. We also find out that his species was responsible for the creation of the Swarm. Rick gives it a go and does some real damage but he’s no match for Galactus head on. The Captain saves him at the end but gives his life doing so. We close the book with Rick donning the Captain’s armor to hopefully give himself an advantage.

I have a feeling in the next issue we’re going to get a great transition and not an actual conclusion. I, for one, can’t wait to see how this plays out.
