In what was thought of as one of the biggest risk Marvel was taking in their cinematic universe, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ proved naysayers wrong by setting a new August opening box office record earning an estimated  $94 million domestically and $160 million worldwide.  So with news like that, you would think that director James Gunn would be out celebrating the film’s success or sitting on his laurels. Instead, the helmer penned an open letter to the fans, cast and crew thanking them for their support.

The letter was posted on Gunn’s Facebook account which you can read in its entirety below:

You can’t help but be touched by the humbleness and heartfelt gratitude of Gunn’s letter. As this was his first time directing a blockbuster film, Gunn accomplished something many with more experience with blockbuster budgets haven’t done, so you can’t help but feel anything but happiness for the man.

But what impressed most is that instead of taking a much deserved break, Gunn is on social media interacting with fans and working on the sequel to ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’ Now that’s dedication!

We’ll see where Gunn takes fans next when ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’ is released in theaters on July 28, 2017.
