‘Allegiant: Part 1’ has just snagged Noah Oppenheim to write the script! With the ‘Divergent‘ franchise going full force and the sequel ‘Insurgent‘ due out in 2015, the film studio needs to be pushing heavily forward in pre-production on ‘Allegiant: Part 1’ if they want to keep releasing a new film each year. Following the trend of splitting the last book into two movies, this franchise that was initially penned by Veronica Roth should stay strong at the box office into 2017.
While Oppenheim has a lot of experience in the producer’s chair on television, he only has one screenplay written to date, ‘The Maze Runner‘ which is coming out this September.
At least with ‘The Maze Runner’ we know that he has a familiarity with the young adult genre film. At this time Oppenheim has only been tapped to write ‘Allegiant: Part 1’ and it isn’t clear if he’ll be doing ‘Allegiant: Part 2’ as well or if that will be handed off to another writer. Clearly the script he wrote must have shown a lot of promise if they are handing the third film of this franchise over to him.
‘Allegiant: Part I’ is set to be released on March 18, 2016 with ‘Allegiant: Part 2’ due out on March 24, 2017.
If you haven’t read the books, the synopsis is vague enough to read without having to worry about spoilers for the second film.
