Fans of the ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes‘ franchise should be thrilled at the latest promotional poster for ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes‘ which shows us Andy Serkis’ Caesar in all of his glory. Nothing quite screams that humanity is reaching the end of the line like Caesar on a horse with a machine gun in hand. (Unless you prefer an ape with a shotgun.) Am I right? Clearly the charge is given to us in the best of ways to show how devastated the world is as California burns in the background and the apes are being rallied against their greatest threat, us.

I particularly find this poster interesting because all hints of the film that I’ve seen so far as well as the preview novel, ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes: Firestorm‘, have given us the view that Caesar really just wants to be left alone. Time and time again it is humanity that can’t leave things alone and pokes the proverbial bee’s nest. Clearly this imagery eludes to us having pushed the apes too far.

Are you looking forward to seeing Caesar riding into battle with his army against humanity this coming July? Also while they still have ammunition I have to ask: Machine gun or shotgun, what should be the ape’s weapon of choice? Share your thoughts below!

Synopsis:

A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species. Andy Serkis, celebrated for his performance in the last film, reprises his role as Caesar. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes also stars Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty, Public Enemies, The Great Gatsby), Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight Rises, The Harry Potter film series), Keri Russell (The Americans, Mission Impossible III), Toby Kebbell (The Prince of Persia, Wrath of the Titans, Rock N Rolla), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Let Me In, ParaNorman), Enrique Murciano (Traffic, Black Hawk Down), Kirk Acevedo (The Thin Red Line) and Judy Greer (The Descendants, Three Kings, 13 Going on 30).

Directed by Matt Reeves, ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ stars Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, Toby Kebbell, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Enrique Murciano, Kirk Acevedo and Judy Greer. The film is set to release on July 11, 2014.
